The Pittsburgh Steelers are gunning for a record 6th Superbowl win putting them ahead of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers for the most all-time. When Bill Cowher called it a career in Pittsburgh after 16 years as head coach, the media all but assumed offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt or longtime offensive line coach Russ Grimm would take the reins. Keep it in-house, and continue the Steeler tradition.

Alas, the media were wrong. Mike Tomlin, a defensive coordinator with the Vikings for just one year, got the gig instead. An outsider, but a fresh face. The Steelers, under Cowher won the Super Bowl title in 2005-2006, and now Tomlin has them back in the big dance. The core players of three years ago still remain— Ben Roethlisberger, Willie Parker, Hines Ward, Heath Miller, and Troy Polamalu.

Former Steelers Assistant Coach Ken Whisenhunt took the news of not becoming head coach in stride, eventually taking over for Dennis Green in Arizona as the new coach of the Cardinals. He brought former Steeler Assistant Coach Russ Grimm — also feeling the sting of rejection — with him as his offensive line coach and assistant head coach. It would be "Steelers West" in Glendale.

The Cardinals are seeking their first league title since 1947 and only the second undisputed league championship in their history. The Cardinals hold the second longest championship drought in sports (sixty one years, with only the Chicago Cubs last winning their championship in 1908). Quarterback Kurt Warner (who took USC's Matt Leinart's starting job earlier this season) holds a Super Bowl championship ring with the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV and will be seeking a second with running back Edgerrin James and wide reciever Larry Fitzgerald.
