The last time the Chicago Bears appeared in the big dance was  January 1986 lead by Coach Mike Ditka and his Superbowl Shuffling team. Now 21 years later, a new breed of Bears reappears in the Superbowl as the number one seed from the NFC. This time, Lovie Smith will lead them there, the first black head coach to make it to the title game in its 41 years. Smith's team did it in true Bears fashion -- big plays on defense and a steady running game in the sleet and snow, ending the Saints' uplifting saga. Youthful QB Rex Grossman leads the Bears offensive which put up 39 points against New Orleans. Brian Urlacher and the defense returned to form, holding the NFL's top offensive team, the Saints, to only 14 points.

The Colts will make a Super Bowl appearance for the first time since the franchise, then located in Baltimore, beat my beloved Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V played in January of 1971. The Colts are lead by coach Tony Dungy who will be coaching in his first Superbowl after building up  Tampa Bay only to have Jon Gruden lead them to victory in Superbowl XXXVII as their first year coach. Football's most prolific quarterback, Peyton Manning, put on a show for the ages Sunday, rallying the Indianapolis Colts from 18 points down and driving them 80 yards for the winning score in a wildly entertaining 38-34 victory over the New England Patriots.

Both teams have plenty of talent, with Chicago sending seven players to the Pro Bowl, six from the defense or special teams, and the Colts boasting five Pro Bowl players, all from the offense. Bears coach Lovie Smith and Colts coach Tony Dungy are close friends, dating back to Smith's time working on Dungy's staff with the Tampa Bay Bucs, and the two are the first African-American head coaches to reach the Super Bowl.
